Located south of Fermo, at the foot of Torre di Palme, Marina Palmense is a Blue Flag beach resort that combines nature and sports. Its coastline ranges from sandy beaches to the north, ideal for families, to pristine stretches to the south, a favored spot for kitesurfing and windsurfing. The area has an ancient history preserved in the Sanctuary of Santa Maria a Mare (12th century).
The Civic Pinacoteca of Fermo preserves masterpieces of the Marche and Venetian schools, including the Stories of Saint Lucia by Jacobello del Fiore and the famous Adoration of the Shepherds by Rubens.
Located near the village of Torre di Palme, the Cugnolo Forest is a rare example of coastal Mediterranean scrub, protected as a Floristic Area. The path, a loop of about two kilometers that takes about half an hour to walk, winds along a picturesque fossil dune from the Pliocene, offering views that range from dense centuries-old oak forests to breathtaking overlooks of the sea.
Piazza del Popolo is the heart of the city of Fermo. Surrounded by sixteenth-century brick arcades, it hosts the oldest public buildings in the town. The square was originally dedicated to San Martino and was named after the small church of the same name, which was later incorporated into the construction of Palazzo dei Priori.
The Duomo of Fermo is astonishing for the contrast between its Romanesque-Gothic facade from 1227 and its Neoclassical interior from 1781. The adjacent Diocesan Museum displays the precious Treasure of the Cathedral, including the Chasuble of St. Thomas Becket (1116) and the Missal De Firmonibus (1436).
Inaugurated in 1792 based on the design by architect Cosimo Morelli, the Teatro dell’Aquila in Fermo is one of the largest and most prestigious historic theaters in the Marche region. It replaced the ancient wooden hall of Palazzo dei Priori and is named after the bird of prey that symbolizes the city.
A14 motorway, Fermo–Porto San Giorgio exit: follow signs for Fermo town centre, about 8 km away. Alternatively, take the SS16 Adriatica road and then continue uphill towards the historic centre.
