Museum of Maritime Heritage Shipyards

Made possible through the collaboration between the Central Institute for Intangible Heritage (ICPI) and the City of Porto San Giorgio, the center is a new attraction dedicated to the intangible heritage of the central Adriatic.

Description

The Museum of Maritime Civilization Builders, housed in the 18th-century Palazzo Trevisani, offers an exciting journey into the culture of the sea. This exhibition and educational hub arises from the collaboration between ICPI and the Municipality of Porto San Giorgio to document and spread knowledge of the intangible cultural heritage of the central Adriatic. Inside, the path is divided into three main areas that utilize the video art works from the project Unwritten structures – (In)visible Stories.

The first area, called the Fortunale, is an immersive microcinema that recalls the storm of March 30, 1935, giving “a video to the voice” of the surviving sailors, whose testimonies in the local dialect were collected in the 1970s. The second section, the Port of Sounds, is a documentary that represents the “field of port sounds,” blending the voices of carpenters and sailors with industrial and fishing noises. The last area, Wavering Wave, features an original third sail to tell the story of the evolution of boats over the years.

In addition to serving as a cultural-tourist attractor, the museum is a place dedicated to educational activities and thematic meetings on maritime practices. Through this project, ICPI reinforces its support for the territories by offering technical-scientific collaboration for the safeguarding of maritime knowledge, thus contributing to the growth of local micro-economies connected to cultural heritage.
