Perched on a panoramic spur overlooking the Adriatic, Torre di Palme is one of the most picturesque places in the Fermano area. An ancient fortified castle, it now presents itself as a compact and harmonious village, where terracotta houses, blooming alleys, and sudden sea vistas create an intimate and timeless atmosphere.
Since 2017, recognized as one of the Most Beautiful Villages in Italy, Torre di Palme invites slow visits among art, history, and landscape. The route through the historic center leads to the Prioral Palace, the Church of Sant’Agostino, which houses the precious Polyptych by Vittore Crivelli, and the Church of Santa Maria a Mare, a Romanesque-Gothic jewel with ancient decorations and pictorial testimonies. The Archaeological Museum enriches the story of the village with artifacts from Picene tombs, restoring memory to the territory’s ancient origins.
At the end of the avenue, the belvedere opens the view on the coast, the hills, and the inhabited area of Porto San Giorgio, offering one of the most exciting views of the Riviera Fermana. Just a short walk from the village, the Bosco del Cugnolo offers a nature trail of great botanical and landscape value, made even more enchanting by the Cave of Lovers and the legend of Antonio and Laurina, a love story that continues to live in the local imagination.
Torre di Palme stands on a hill overlooking the Adriatic, between Porto San Giorgio and Pedaso. By car, it can be reached from the Porto San Giorgio–Fermo or Pedaso exits on the A14 motorway, continuing along the SS16 Adriatica and following signs for the village.
The reference railway station is Porto San Giorgio–Fermo; Pedaso can also be useful for those arriving from the south. From there, continue by local transport connections or by taxi.
To visit Torre di Palme, it is advisable to use parking areas outside the village and continue on foot. During busier periods, especially in summer, check local availability and signs.
The Abbey Church of San Bartolomeo, rebuilt in the second half of the 19th century, stands out for its Greek cross layout and the richness of its interiors. The frescoes by the painter Fontana, along with the marble decorations and the figures of saints created by his student Nicola Achilli, make it a small treasure of sacred art.
The Sanctuary of Santa Maria della Corva is a place of deep Marian devotion. Originating from the 16th century and originally dedicated to Saint John the Baptist, the church became famous for the miraculous event of 1829, when the statue of the Virgin of Sorrows opened its arms before the faithful.
The Civic Library "Romolo Spezioli", located in the monumental Palazzo degli Studi designed by Girolamo Rainaldi, is one of the most prestigious archives in Europe. Its beating heart is the majestic Hall of the Globe (1688), which houses the original core of civic knowledge and the famous terrestrial globe by Silvestro Amanzio Maroncelli from 1713.
