Located south of Fermo, at the foot of Torre di Palme, Marina Palmense is a Blue Flag beach resort that combines nature and sports. Its coastline ranges from sandy beaches to the north, ideal for families, to pristine stretches to the south, a favored spot for kitesurfing and windsurfing.
The area has an ancient history preserved in the Sanctuary of Santa Maria a Mare (12th century).
The district of Marina Palmense is the southernmost part of the Municipality of Fermo, very close to the A14 motorway exit, stretching below the large panoramic terraces of Torre di Palme. Its beaches, along with those of Lido di Fermo and Casabianca, have been continuously awarded the prestigious Blue Flag in recent years.
It stands out to the south as an unspoiled stretch of pebbly beach where you can practice kitesurfing, windsurfing, surfing, wingfoiling, and hydrofoiling thanks to the sirocco wind, favorable in this area, making it a favored destination for those who want to experience the freedom of being in the sea. In the northern stretch, the mixed gravel and sand beach hosts numerous equipped campsites to welcome tourists to a coast where they can relax in the sun and have fun with the whole family between dives and swims in the blue sea with a gently sloping seabed.
Surrounded by dense vegetation and hills, Marina Palmense, with its unspoiled nature, is a favored destination for those looking to take advantage of the equipped resting area and enjoy a free-spirited backpacking vacation just steps from the sea, offering a nice walk to explore the surroundings towards the Bosco del Cugnolo and the nearby Torre di Palme or cycling to discover the territory.
Here you can admire the Church of San Giuseppe Artigiano and the ancient Sanctuary of Santa Maria a Mare dedicated to Maria Santissima Stella del Mare, also known as Sant’Anna due to the devotion to the mother of Mary, protector of expectant mothers.
Founded by the Augustinians, the Sanctuary dates back to the 12th century and was probably built over the remains of an ancient pagan temple dedicated to Aurora, which was located near the port of Fermo, ‘Castellum Firmanorum’. Around 1400, the structure was transformed and completed with the construction of the Convent. The church is a simple building made of stone and terracotta. The interior has three naves with an elevated presbytery and a vault decorated with frescoes by Giuseppe Canali. On the main altar, enclosed in a large rectangular frame, is a fresco from the 1400s by Vincenzo Pagani, depicting the Madonna (Santa Maria a Mare) with Saint John the Baptist and Saint Blaise.
Marina Palmense is located along the Fermo coastline, south of Porto San Giorgio. It can be reached by car from the A14 motorway, taking either the Porto San Giorgio–Fermo or Pedaso exit depending on the direction of travel, and continuing along the SS16 Adriatica road.
The reference railway station is Porto San Giorgio–Fermo; Pedaso may also be useful depending on the direction of travel. From there, Marina Palmense can be reached by local transport connections or by taxi.
Parking areas are available along the seafront and near the beach access points. During busier periods, especially in summer, it is advisable to follow local signs and check for any temporary parking restrictions.
